Tulip Tree (AKA Tulip Magnolia, Yellow Poplar, or Tulip Poplar)
This large, deciduous tree is not in the Popular family despite some of its common names. It is instead in the Magnolia family. Its leaves are bright green in the summer and golden to bright yellow in the fall. In spring, this tree features tulip-shaped, upright blossoms which are yellow-green in color on the petals and orange colored in the flower's center. Once the tree is mature, the flowers are borne higher up and out of easy observation. It works great as a shade tree.
